May, 2003 John Kørner - Construction Sets, Works on paper
2 May – 21 June 2003

It is with pleasure we present John Kørners second exhibition in Galleri Christina Wilson.  The title of the show is CONSTRUCTION SETS and Kørner shows new works on paper - paper banners and smaller colourful drawings.

CONSTRUCTION SETS in Kørners world is an approach to life itself.  The artists faces up to the problems and solves them with creativity and energy.  The motifs and therefore also the "problems" in John Kørners drawings are rooted in both the real and the metaphysical world.  The drawings show natural phenomena on equal terms with the more surreal elements - and a special Kørner universe comes alive.  Both form and content are constantly transformed through the repetition of motifs and elements of form, leading to new and rather absurd connections with surprising, poetic and even playful results.  Appearing in one drawing is - of course - the favourite term PROBLEM (which has appeared also as a ceramics candlestick, in paintings and prints) getting a shower!  Or, as in another drawing, the horizon continues up the edges of the drawing with boats going all the way around the paper.  Metaphysical specs become books on a bookshelf, etc. etc.  The expressionistic and the constructivistic goes hand in hand, which lets Kørner introduce and new element relative to his earlier works.

John Kørner often incorporates works and whole sentences in his works.  In the paper banners various French words are printet on the paper.  To Kørner the French language is poetic and saturated with love and as such used to balance the grid and the stylistic drawings filling the space.  The title CONSTRUCTION SETS on the other hand is English, which, in Kørners opinion is more expressive.  The drawing show more than ever Kørners very own artistic language.

Also in connection with the show we are happy to present John Kørners new book "A Modern Problem", 96 colour pages selling at DKK 199.  The book is for sale in the gallery, several museums and some bookstores.
