March 18 – April 21, 2005
Galleri Christina Wilson hereby has the pleasure of presenting the exhibition Access all Areas, featuring works by the Swedish painter Niklas Eneblom (1964) and the Finnish video artist Petra Lindholm (1973).
In the exhibition, Niklas Eneblom presents a large number of paintings in various sizes, some of which are surprisingly small. The subjects are similarly surprising and humorous, as in the painting African Women, 2001, in which some black women are depicted shooting down water slides and landing in two swimming pools. Eneblom has pared this story down to the bare essentials by showing only the water slides, with no other surroundings apart from a colour surface. This means of approaching the essence of a subject is typical of Eneblom; he selects his subject and presents it coolly and in detail in the middle of a colour surface which is always a curry-yellow shade, or a 1950s kitchen cabinet green. These slightly muddy colour environments give the paintings a melancholy and lonely tone. Even when Eneblom paints people in the middle of some everyday task, we gain an impression of isolation – but through Eneblom’s quiet humour, the images attain a tragicomic air.
Petra Lindholm’s 2004 video, Until, is in many ways a counterpart to Niklas Eneblom’s paintings. The video moves slowly through a city at night, from an anonymous and slightly seedy hotel lobby to a tour through the city. We follow the sleepless course of a young woman, her telephone conversations with a friend who doesn’t have time for her, her accounts of her nightmares, etc. On the video soundtrack, we hear Petra Lindholm singing quietly and sentimentally, placing the loneliness of modern people into perspective.
The exhibition is presented in collaboration with Galleri Magnus Karlsson, Stockholm.
